Shower Repairs in Grange
Most calls for shower repairs in Grange come down to three faults. A head drips with the water off, a spray never warms past lukewarm, or the flow goes weak and patchy. Grange Plumbing Services fixes all three, and a licensed plumber attends every booking from Grange out to the streets nearby.

This page sets out what each fault means, what the law lets you touch, and when a repair turns into a replacement. The wider room sits on our bathroom plumbing page, and a shower that needs moving belongs with the renovation plumbing work.

Shower Faults That Need a Plumber
Drips, weak flow and lukewarm water fill most of the shower repair jobs we attend. Telling them apart points the diagnosis at the right part before anyone orders anything:
A drip with the water off
the mixer is letting water past a worn washer or cartridge. Water left in the head draining out after your shower is normal, and the two are worth telling apart.
A leak only while the shower runs
the join between the head and the arm has a loose connection or a tired seal.
Lukewarm or cold water
a worn cartridge can blend in too much cold. Hot water gone at all the taps points to the heater instead, and our hot water page covers that.
Weak or uneven spray
scale over the spray holes, a restrictor inside the head, or a cartridge past its best. Pressure down across the whole house is a separate fault.

Can You Fix a Shower Yourself in Queensland
Yes, but only the head. The QBCC lists replacing a shower head as unregulated work, open to anyone, provided the finished job meets the standards.
Everything behind it is different:
The arm, wall mixer and cartridge
repairing or replacing a fitting or fixture is minor work. A licensed plumber handles it, without a council permit or a Form 4.
A new shower outlet, or a shower shifted to a new position
this counts as notifiable work in an existing building. A licensed plumber does the job, no council permit applies, and a Form 4 goes to the QBCC within 10 business days of finishing.
The Form 4 fee
the licensed contractor lodges the form and pays the fee, and may pass that cost, including administration, on to the owner.

From the Shower Head Back to the Wall
The parts run in this order: the head, the arm or rail, the hose feeding a handheld unit, and the mixer in the wall. Knowing which is which keeps the quote honest:
The shower head
the outlet you see, and the one part you may swap yourself.
The arm or rail
the arm feeds a fixed head from the wall, while a rail holds a handheld unit. Both sit in reach without opening the wall, though reaching a mixer inside the wall means going through the tile.
The cartridge
the part inside the mixer that sets the flow and the hot-cold blend. A worn one shows up as a drip, a stiff handle, or the wrong temperature, and we match the replacement to the mixer.
The diverter
on a shower sharing a wall with a bath, a worn diverter sends water to the spout while the shower is on. Our bath installation page covers the tub side of that wall.

What a New Shower Set Needs to Meet
Replace the fitting when wear runs deeper than a washer or a cartridge, or when a new outlet goes in or shifts position. The rules for anything new sit on top of those work categories:
Certification
taps, showers and flow controllers hold WaterMark certification and a rating under the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards scheme. Only a product carrying WaterMark certification can be legally installed.
New dwellings
showerheads in new homes need a minimum 3-star rating under that scheme. Renovations of an existing home sit outside that requirement.
Rentals
a Queensland rental's showerhead has to run at nine litres a minute or less before a landlord can pass the water account to the tenant.

Older Bathrooms and Their Mixers
Most showers we open here sit in homes built before 1940 or through the post-war decades, so the mixer usually hides behind original tile. A Grange Road bathroom from the interwar years can turn a cartridge swap into careful tile work. Matching a finish on a character house takes longer than the swap itself.
The suburb's growth tells the same story. Area-level figures put population growth at 5.3 per cent from 2020 to 2025, with 16 dwellings approved across 2021-22, so most of the suburb's showers sit in existing bathrooms rather than new ones.
A renovation that goes further than the shower belongs on our renovation plumbing page, and a new vanity and basin often lands in the same job.

Shower Repair Questions Answered
Call (07) 3523 7172Can I change my own shower head in Queensland?
Yes, anyone may swap their own shower head: the QBCC's unregulated work list covers it, and the finished job still has to meet the plumbing standards. The rest of the shower is a licensed plumber's work.
Do I need a plumber to install a new shower?
Yes, a new or moved shower outlet is notifiable work, so a licensed plumber handles it and lodges a Form 4 with the QBCC inside 10 business days of finishing. No council permit applies.
Does a shower mixer swap need a Form 4?
No, a like-for-like mixer swap is minor work, which needs a licensed plumber but no Form 4. Shifting the fixture or adding an outlet turns the job into notifiable work, and that version does need one.
How many litres per minute can a rental showerhead use?
No more than nine litres a minute. Queensland tenancy rules set that flow as one condition before a landlord may pass the whole Urban Utilities account to the tenant. Tenancy guidance suggests a 3-star rating under the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards scheme on fixtures made from 2005 onwards.
Who fixes a shower mixer in a Grange unit?
The lot owner. Urban Utilities looks after the street mains, and pipes serving one lot inside its boundary belong to that owner. A shower tray falls to the owner or occupier even where it sits outside the lot.
